ELLIS AND THE
NIGHT ORCHESTRA

Ellis and the Night Orchestra is a new work for young and family audiences by writer-director Julie Ritchey, composer-performer Tim Munro and ensemble Southern Cross Soloists. Blending chamber music and theatre, this playful and heartfelt production invites children aged 0 to 8 and their caregivers into an imaginative, participatory musical world.

Ellis is too scared to sleep. Each time he lays down, he hears strange sounds: creaks, whispers, sighs. Ellis learns to listen and befriend these sounds, becoming the conductor of his very own Night Orchestra.

This playful and heartfelt journey will resonate with anyone who has struggled with bedtime. Children and their caregivers are part of the action, joining the music making and storytelling. It also introduces young people to classical instruments in an engaging way.

Designed to tour to community spaces in Qld, Ellis and the Night Orchestra is presented with minimal sets and portable lighting to work its magic. The work comes alive in libraries, community spaces and gymnasiums through compelling storytelling and musicianship.

Southern Cross Soloists respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Custodians & First Nation owners of the land on which we work.  We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and future. We also recognise those whose ongoing effort to protect and promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures will leave a lasting legacy for future Elders and leaders.
