Queensland’s Southern Cross Soloists (SXS) have today announced the cancelation of its annual Bangalow Chamber Music Festival. This year’s event was to be the 21st iteration of the festival. Citing “increased costs and lower than average ticket sales”, SXS has made the decision “with heavy hearts”.

Put the word divine in the title of a concert and I’m there. There is no better tonic for the soul than beautiful music, which Brisbane’s Southern Cross Soloists will be supplying plenty of this year. Oh, I’m sure they will challenge us occasionally with something that we should be listening to for our own good, but they have not lost sight of one of the key reasons why people like classical and chamber music. That is, because it is beautiful.

Opera Australia (OA) has announced its lead performers for its upcoming Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour revival of West Side Story, presented on a huge floating stage moored off Fleet Steps for a four-week season, opening 22 March.
First Nations soprano Nina Korbe will make her professional theatrical debut as Maria while Tony will be played by Canberra-born tenor Billy Bourchier, following his multi-city run in OA’s production of Miss Saigon.
