Hush
CONCERT HALL, QPAC
SUNDAY 1 MARCH, 2026 - 3PM
In a world that hums with distraction, chamber music offers a rare invitation to pause, to look inwards. Karin Schaupp, “one of the world’s top classical guitarists” (The Australian), joins the Southern Cross Soloists (SXS) for a journey from dazzling light to calming night.
The program opens with electrifying dance tunes by Marin Marais and Isaac Albeniz. The program then transitions to night through famous songs by Schubert and Fauré, finding peace in music performed at the speed of the performers’ breath and heartbeat. As the sun prepares to set outside, Max Richter tucks the audience into bed, finding peace amid the hubbub.
Carnival of the Animals
CONCERT HALL, QPAC
SUNDAY 14 JUNE, 2026 - 3PM
Birds flock, kangaroos hop. A swan glides elegantly by.
Camille Saint-Saëns captures the natural world with wit and delight in his Carnival of the Animals, performed here in Michael Leunig’s uniquely Australian adaptation, complete with representations of his iconic drawings.
The program begins with an immersive natural soundscape, featuring music by American composer John Luther Adams and First Nations composers Brenda Gifford and Nardi Simpson.
The ensemble is joined by the Grinberg-Viney piano duo, a “barnstorming” (The Australian) and “unforgettable” (Los Angeles Times) ensemble.
sacred and profane
CONCERT HALL, QPAC
SUNDAY 18 OCTOBER, 2026 - 3PM
JS Bach’s profound devotion to the sacred meets the delicacy and poise of contemporary circus. An internationally acclaimed circus performer, will be announced in February 2026, (a “faultless” (Broadway World) “circus star” (The West Australian)), joining the ensemble for a unique collaboration. Intimate solos by Bach are interlaced with graceful circus motions, transforming both genres.
Around these still moments whirl the irreverent spirits of Poulenc, Stravinsky and Shostakovich, celebrating humanity’s messy splendour. The program ends with Jennifer Higdon’s Zaka, a tour-de-force which “bursts out of the gate, all smiles” (The Philadelphia Inquirer).
