Maxine Williamson

Listed in 2023 as one of the most influential Queensland women in the Arts "State of the Arts" (Phil Brown) in QWeekend Magazine, Courier Mail, Maxine has been a film/arts leader in Brisbane and internationally for over 30 years. In 2007, Maxine was pivotal in establishing the internationally regarded, Asia Pacific Screen Awards as Film Director, finishing after its 10th edition in mid-2017 to commence film producing in the region. Artistic Director of two international film festivals – Brisbane International Film Festival and Brisbane Asia Pacific Film Festival, Maxine also spent ten years prior to this in Exhibition/Distribution of quality art, foreign language film at Dendy Films/Cinemas finishing in 2007 as General Manager, Dendy Cinemas Brisbane managing two cinemas and eight screens. Maxine was Artistic Advisor and Manager of the touring exhibition FRAME:  How Asia Pacific Feminist Filmmakers and Artists are Addressing Inequalities premiering during the Asia Pacific Screen Awards and touring to the Sydney Film Festival, the Berlinale - NATIVe program and Washington DC. She has moderated many Q&As with the world’s most influential film practitioners and participated on many international juries including the Berlin Int. Film Festival and was President of the Jury for the Rabat Int. Film Festival – Morocco in 2024. A member of The Society of Australian Cinema Pioneers, 2026 Board member for the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema, Asia Producer’s Network and the Asia Pacific Screen Academy, Maxine holds a degree in Film/TV– graduating with Distinction. Maxine was Associate Producer on Scene by Scene: Films and Filmmakers of Asia Pacific airing globally on CNN International for four years. Maxine is the producer of multi award-winning Indian feature documentary Death in the City, along with other 'in development' titles through her film production company Sorry State of Mind Prods.
